Transafe Academy - Product training

Anyone working on a ship or at a terminal has to deal with the treatment of dangerous substances on a daily basis. Having a thorough knowledge of the products that are transported is therefore essential. Our Product Training course aims to increase knowledge of physics and chemistry as well as the characteristics/dangers of the substances that are being transported.

The programme includes:

• Physical characteristics of substances in general, such as gas, liquid and non-liquid substances, vaporisation, condensation, mixing and vapour pressure.
• Chemical elements: molecules, ions, periodical system, atom and molecule density.
• Organic chemical basic principles such as molecular structures in organic chemistry and group categorisations such as ketones, esters, acids and aromatics.
• Inorganic chemical acids and bases, pH.
• Reactivity of substances: with air, water, other substances, materials and itself (polymerisation and inhibitor).
• Specific dangers, among which static electricity.
• Equipment related gas measurements, among which inert gas.
• Particular substances dealt with: petrol, methanol, benzene, hydrogen sulphide and carbon monoxide.
• Various practical examples

The duration of the course is two days.
