Audits are held at the offices of shipping companies or charterers and inspections are carried out on board.

An audit held at the office serves as an internal audit for management systems or Tanker Management Self Assessments (TMSA). The objective of an audit is to verify whether activities are executed according to prevailing procedures and instructions and to introduce improvements if necessary.

Inspections are carried out by inspectors of Transafe, all of whom are familiar with the relevant directives, among which SIRE, TMSA as well as vetting and Rightship requirements. During an inspection an alcohol and drug test might be carried out or additional training might be given to the ship’s crew.
